Hi there, my name is Toni Marie Hazlett and I would like to share a
little about me. I was born and raised in San Clemente, California
where I attended K-12th grade. I enjoyed school up to about Sophmore
year of highschool; school came naturally to me until about that time.
That's when I had to figure out what a "hard worker" actually was. I
ended up going to college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where I recieved
my Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Administration
and minor in Psychology. I loved being a part of Cal Poly's motto,
"learn by doing". The experience I recieved from college gave me
confidence and a new liking towards school. I am now at San Marcos
hoping to survive the Multiple-Subject Credential Program starting this
fall!
I will be completely honest, I hate computers. I have never
been good at them, and I hope that's not the end of my technology
story. I have been known to set computers on fire (by accident), be
kicked out of yearbook class (because my poor computer skills), and
waste lots of money on the computer hospital. Despite my frustration
towards computers, I am looking forward to my struggle in this class.
I don't want to fight with technology anymore, I want to welcome it and
use it to my advantage as a future teacher.
The part of Cal State San Marcos' mission statement that says,
"our practices demonstrate a commitment to student-centered education,
diversity, collaboration, professionalism, and shared governance,"
makes so much sense to me. In my experience, I have learned more from
relationships and my surrounding environment than I have from any
textbook. By being a part of a student-centered and diverse
educational community, both teachers and students will be benefitted.
Each individual's uniquness deserves to be recognized, especially in a
classroom setting when there are 40 students with 40 different ways of
learning. I am proud to be a part of the School of Education here at
San Marcos, and look forward to my teaching career.
Toni, your experiences with computers sounds somewhat comical! I'm glad you're looking forward to learning a few new wonderful things in this class! I feel the exact same about entering the Credentialing Program in the Fall. I think this class with benefit us in ways we never thought possible!
